FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 5, 2022

SASKATCHEWAN SINGER-SONGWRITER MEGAN NASH TO MAKE DEBUT WITH REGINA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN:  The Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is celebrating the Christmas season with the annual community holiday concert, this year featuring Saskatchewan’s own, Megan Nash.  The RSO Christmas Special will be held at Conexus Arts Centre on Saturday, December 10th at 7:30 pm with pre-show activities starting at 6:45 pm in the Theatre Lobby.  RSO Music Director Gordon Gerrard will be conducting the concert and has planned a program to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

The RSO will play a selection of music from holiday films like Babes in Toyland and Polar Express, as well as festive standards like Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.  Mayor Sandra Masters will also make her return to the RSO stage with a reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and a not-to-be-missed performance with the symphony musicians.

While this concert will have many familiar parts, there will be two exciting debuts made at this festive concert.  Supported by the Best of Intentions band, Megan Nash will perform selections from their catalogue like Quite, Seeker and Deer Head with brand new arrangements for orchestra by RSO Pops Conductor Lucas Waldin. Nash has won and been nominated for numerous awards, including a 2019 JUNO Award nomination for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year for Seeker, 2021 Saskatchewan Music Award for Alternative Artist of the Year, and 2021 Best of Moose Jaw Award for Best Musical Artist.

The other debut will be the Regina Symphony Chamber Choir, a newly formed choral group made up of Regina singers.  The Chamber Choir will lend their voices to Megan Nash’s song, as we all as help the audience in the annual carol sing-a-long to end the concert. This group has been rehearsing since September for this concert, as well as Handel’s Messiah, which the RSO will be performing on December 17th.

Extra activities in the Theatre Lobby are sponsored by SaskLotteries.  Queen City Brass will start the night with a performance amidst the Winter Wonderland tree displays and the custom balloon wall from Balloon Bar YQR.  Hot chocolate and post-concert coffee provided by Conexus Arts Centre.

The RSO Christmas Special is part of the 22/23 Pops Series, which is still available as a season subscription or Choose Your Own ticket package.  Gift certificates are also available at the concert and online.

Tickets for December 10 can be purchased online at www.reginasymphony.com, at the Conexus Arts Centre Box Office, or by calling 306-586-9555.
