KRISTY TUCKER

Principal Bassoon

Kristy Tucker joined the Regina Symphony Orchestra as Principal Bassoon in 2023. She previously held the same position with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and served as Second Bassoon with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Each summer, she performs as Principal Bassoon with the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra.

Kristy has performed with a wide range of ensembles, including the New World Symphony, Orchestre Classique de Montréal, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. Her performance career has taken her across Canada and internationally — highlights include appearing at Carnegie Hall as part of the Yale in New York chamber series, touring South Korea with the Orford Festival Orchestra, and completing three national tours with NYO Canada.

Her recordings can be heard on Nimbus Records, on Iowa PBS broadcasts, and she was named one of the CBC’s “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30”.

Kristy holds music degrees from McGill University and Yale University, where she also taught undergraduate bassoon lessons. Her principal teachers were Frank Morelli, Stéphane Lévesque, and Allen Harrington.

Outside of music, Kristy enjoys solving the New York Times crossword (her longest solve streak is 308 days!), making and eating her favourite dessert — chocolate mousse — with her husband, RSO Principal Bass Eric, and playing with their energetic tortoiseshell cat, Peanut.
