21-22 Link Up: The Orchestra Moves

Link Up is an interactive music experience for grade 3-6 students in Regina and southern Saskatchewan. Students learn songs to sing and play on recorder throughout the winter semester culminating in an interactive concert at the Conexus Arts Centre with the RSO! More than 3,000 students and teachers from five school divisions participate each year, many experiencing a live orchestra for the first time!

Link Up is offered by the RSO in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute in New York City. Since 2003 Carnegie Hall has been supporting orchestras worldwide to present Link Up by providing high quality resources, professional development, music, and concert programs. Link Up includes 4 different concerts which are rotated each year:

1. Link Up: The Orchestra Moves
2. Link Up: The Orchestra Sings
3. Link Up: The Orchestra Rocks
4. Link Up: The Orchestra Swings

The RSO will perform The Orchestra Moves in the 2021—2022 season.

In the Fall of 2019 Elder Gordon Favel, from the Kawacatoose First Nation Reserve, gifted the song pe-wapan (Coming of Dawn), to the Regina Symphony Orchestra and community to sing during the May 2020 Link Up concert. Sadly, the May 2020 concert was canceled but we are excited to include pe-wapan (coming of dawn) in the May 6th2022 concert! Click here for teaching materials and video.

More details about all the Link Up concerts are available here.

Teachers interested in the 2021-22 Link Up program must view or participate in two Link Up Teacher Professional Development sessions. These unique sessions will be led by RSO teaching artists. Professional Development will provide teachers with the resources and information they need to ensure their students success in the Link Up program. Professional Development sessions will be held virtually over Zoom conferencing. These sessions will also be recorded and available online for teachers who cannot attend professional development sessions and for reference. The recorded professional development sessions will be password protected and available only to teachers who register.

Each professional development session will include new progressive content. Skills learned in the first session will lead to more advanced skills in the second. Click here to receive a Zoom link for the January 13 2020 professional
