The RSO celebrates Canada’s 150th anniversary with a combination of music new and old! Featuring Toronto Symphony Orchestra commission Qiksaaktuq with Polaris Prize winner Tanya Tagaq, and a brand new Trumpet Concerto by Edmonton composer John Estacio. Dvořák’s iconic New World Symphony rounds out this program of works inspired by our shared history in this land.

Samuel Barber and Johannes Brahms, two of the greatest craftsmen of melody ever, are brought together for one night of music that will stimulate the full range of human emotion. This program includes Barber’s moving Adagio for Strings, and his sunnier and more lyrical Violin Concerto. The evening concludes with one of Brahms’s most optimistic and joyful works, his Symphony No. 2.

Canadian composer Michael Oesterle’s Sunspot Letters provides thought provoking contrast to Mozart’s perfect miniature, the Oboe Quartet.
Accompanied by a string quartet of RSO musicians, Christopher Hall delights people with beautiful music while making them laugh. Hall takes the peculiar rituals surrounding classical music—and the musicians themselves—and hilariously turns it all upside down and inside out!
Pianist Stephen Runge returns home to Regina for a performance of Ravel’s sparkling masterpiece, the Piano Concerto in G Major. Continuing the celebration of master orchestrators of the 20th century, the orchestra presents Rachmaninoff’s sweeping Symphony No. 2

Romantic chamber music warms Saskatchewan’s historic Government House in a must see concert with the return of Music Director, Gordon Gerrard.
For the first time ever, the RSO is honoured to welcome Grammy and Juno award winning conductor Bramwell Tovey to the stage. Maestro Tovey leads the orchestra, choirs, and soloists in Fauré’s Requiem, a moving and powerful dedication to those that came before us. Opening the program is a brand new work composed by Maestro Tovey himself.

The program features Regina born cellist, Blair Lofgren, in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations, a perfect homage to the composer’s idol.

Next, Leonard Bernstein’s groundbreaking Broadway musical is given the full symphonic treatment in Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, and Stravinsky’s puppet burlesque ballet score finishes the season in an explosion of symphonic colour.
