Piapot Project

The Regina Symphony Orchestra, as part of its Education and Outreach programs, initiated the Piapot Project in the fall of 2011.  Through the Piapot Project students at the Payepot school were given violin lessons by Ed Minevich, assisted by Andrea Hedlund, Adrian Casas and Ramses Calderon.  Grade One and Grade Two students were given musical instruction as well as music history and theory.  A highlight of the project was the Piapot Festival which took place in June of 2012, with the Grade One students, “The Piapot Strings” and special guests.  In 2012 the Regina Symphony Chamber Players performed a concert for the students and whole community at the Payepot School.  One of the main goals of the project is that it would become part of the Education programming on the Piapot First Nation and this past year that goal was met.
