Maestro Victor Sawa is a man of many talents and many interests. From Mahler to Super Mario, from the movie theatre to the coffee house, from the Montreal Canadiens to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Victor is as comfortable with swinging a golf club as he is with his conductor’s baton. Victor was somewhat of a late bloomer, not picking up his first clarinet until he was 14 years old, but his career picked up speed quickly with scholarships, awards, a performance at the White House, a Grammy award and ultimately a position on the podium as maestro. When Victor joined the Regina Symphony Orchestra 15 seasons ago, he was dubbed the maestro of the people as he worked to win over a new generation of orchestra fans with a mix of the classics, the pops and the hits from the world of movies. Victor’s accessible and entertaining commentary during concerts creates a fun and comfortable atmosphere for everyone in the audience, from RSO rookies to seasoned symphony goers. Victor is proof that success is possible, no matter how or when you start, and his advice to aspiring musician is to do it for the love of it, to not take no for an answer and that any problem can be solved over a cup of strong coffee.
